It is estimated that 40% of people over the age of 40 years old will experience vertigo
Many wait months or even years for a diagnosis and potentially even longer to start treatment – leading to loss of confidence, isolation and poorer quality of life
When assessing vertigo, traditional Frenzel lenses have been shown to be only 33% accurate in displaying abnormal eye movements in those with known vestibular dysfunction.
That’s why the Dizziness, Balance & Concussion Centre uses infrared video goggles – which record eye movements – giving us a much more accurate picture as to what is happening and helping to eliminate false negatives
Vestibular disorders and poor balance are one of the most common causes of falls – having a significant impact on people and their families, as well as on the NHS and other services
Vestibular rehabilitation and balance retraining has been proven to significantly help those suffering from dizziness, vertigo and balance related issues
Vertigo and dizziness has many different causes and effects everyone differently.
We take the time to get to you know you and your story, then closely assess different aspects of your balance system, which may include:
– Vestibular-ocular motor system – using the RightEye tracking system
– Head and eye co-ordination
– Balance and gait
– Motion sensitivity
– Nystagmus – using infra-red
video goggles
Each treatment programme is tailored to your specific circumstances and goals and may include:
– Vestibular rehabilitation
Specific exercises to address your dizziness and vertigo
– Balance Retraining
Helping you regain your
steadiness and confidence
– Repositioning manoeuvres
Such as Epley’s and other
manoevers to help treat BPPV
– Regain your independence
– Return to your hobbies and sports
– Gain an understanding of what is happening
– Take back control of your life and condition
– Able to get out and socialise
– Live a ‘balanced’ life!
